In Fountain Valley we are pleased to announce SLP-CF Kimberly Sapp and her facility/therapy dog Tillie at our clinic. We are very optimistic in the positivity and outcome Tillie will provide to our clients and staff at our clinic. Below is a little bit about Tillie.
Tillie is a 2 1/2 year old Labrador/Golden Retriever cross. One of her puppy raisers was an elementary school teacher, and she took Tillie to school every day. She has grown up with a great deal of interaction with hundreds of children, so she is not only friendly and fun, she is also very sweet and gentle.
Just a little information about her training:
Canine Companions for Independence (CCI) trains 4 types of assistance dogs; Tillie is one of which is called a Facility Dog. Facility Dogs are expertly trained dogs who partner with a facilitator working in a health care clinic, visitation or education setting. CCI Facility Dogs are trustworthy in professional environments and can perform over 40 commands designed to motivate and inspire clients with special needs.
Notifying parents:
We have placed a sign in the waiting room informing parents that there is a facility/service dog in the office.
If there are concerns:
Staff and parents who have concerns regarding their child being allergic or any other general concerns are asked to speak to client services as well as the front office to notify them of their child’s allergies as well as having concerns being around the dog. That being said, man’s best friend will ONLY be in Kim Sapp’s room.
